Clear windshield film

The biggest window in the car, finally covered.

Virginia does not allow a dark windshield. It does allow a clear one with heat-blocking film, as long as the glass still passes 70% light. Our heat-blocking film comes clear. You cannot see it. You can feel it.

The law, plainly

Clear film on a windshield is legal. Dark film is not.

Since 2008, Virginia Code 46.2‑1052 has allowed clear film on a windshield as long as the finished glass still lets through at least 70% of visible light and does not reflect more than 20%. That is a clear, heat-blocking film, not a shade.

The strip across the top is a separate rule. A sun strip is allowed above the AS‑1 line on the glass, about five inches down. It can be dark. Most people add it with the fronts.

Why 70% matters. A windshield is not 100% clear to begin with. The glass alone reads in the high 70s or 80s, so the film on it has to be very clear for the combination to pass. That is why a windshield film is a different product from a side-window film.

What it does. Clear film on the windshield blocks most of the infrared coming through the largest piece of glass on the car. The dash stays cooler, the air conditioning catches up faster, and nobody can tell it is there.

Questions

The short answers.

Will it pass Virginia inspection?

Clear film that keeps the glass above 70% light and under 20% reflection is legal under Virginia Code 46.2‑1052. A dark windshield is not. If an inspector questions clear film, the statute and the film spec are your answer.

Can you see it?

No. It is clear. The only way to know is to put your hand on the dash at noon.

Is the windshield film under warranty?

No. A windshield takes wipers, sand and rock chips that side glass never sees, so the film on it is never warrantied. We tell everyone this before they book.

Can I get just the sun strip?

Yes. A strip across the top, above the AS‑1 line, is quick and legal at any shade. Add it on the Fast Quote form.

What does it cost?
